Meta ads UK location fee 2026 | Info for Local Businesses running Meta Ads!
If you run Meta ads and you’re targeting customers in the UK, you’re about to see a small but important change to your billing.
From 1 July 2026, Meta adds a 2% location fee to all ads delivered to UK audiences. It’s not a huge number — but it’s worth understanding what it means for your budget, especially if you’re running campaigns on a tight monthly spend.
What exactly is a location fee?
Meta now passes on part of the cost of Digital Services Taxes (DST) — government-imposed levies on digital platforms. The fee is based on where your audience is located, not where your business is. So even if you’re based in Hertfordshire, any ad shown to someone in the UK triggers the 2% charge.
It works like this: you spend £100, Meta delivers the ads, then adds £2 on top. If VAT applies to your account, it’s calculated on the £102 total — not the original £100.
Which countries are affected?
The UK rate is 2%. Austria and Turkey sit at 5%. France, Italy and Spain are at 3%. If you’re only targeting UK audiences, that 2% is all you need to factor in.
What does this mean for your budget?
The fee lands after your ads run — it doesn’t eat into your campaign budget. So if you’ve set £200/month, Meta spends £200 on delivery, then bills the location fee on top. Your campaigns won’t deliver less. You’ll just pay slightly more than your stated budget.
For most local businesses spending £200–£300/month on Meta, that’s an extra £4–£6 a month. Not dramatic — but worth flagging to whoever handles your finances.
Do you need to do anything?
Not to your campaigns — Meta applies the fee automatically and itemises it on your invoice (expect a line like “United Kingdom digital services”). But do:
- Check which ad accounts Meta listed in their email to you
- Let your bookkeeper or accountant know so they can account for the extra line item
- Build it into your budget expectations going forward
The bigger picture
This isn’t unique to Meta. Other platforms will likely follow as governments across Europe tighten digital tax legislation. It’s simply the cost of doing business online now.
Don’t let it put you off running ads. A well-run local Meta campaign still delivers one of the best returns available to small businesses — and £4–£6 a month isn’t a reason to walk away from something generating you leads.
